What to Expect During Your Acupuncture Treatment
On your first visit, or when you are experiencing a new symptom, Deborah Kim will begin by asking some questions to discover more about your history of illness, emotions, lifestyle, and diet. This is followed by a physical examination, which includes monitoring the pulse, checking the color and condition of the tongue, applied kinesiology, and feeling for tender acupoints to determine the specific area to treat.
When a diagnosis has been made, Deborah Kim will prescribe whole-food and herbal supplements, along with general lifestyle recommendations, including dietary counseling. During the acupuncture treatments, very thin needles will be inserted in the corresponding location along the meridian.
Although some people do not feel the needles being inserted, many patients report experiencing a numbing sensation that lasts for a few seconds, followed by a sense of relaxation and tranquility. The needles remain in place for anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes.
The number of sessions required depends on a variety of factors, including the severity of your condition, whether it is acute or chronic, and your overall health. You may also be advised to consider complementary non-needling treatments, such as tui na, moxibustion, or cupping.
