5 signs your lower back pain needs attention

Almost everyone deals with lower back pain at some point, and most of the time it settles down on its own within a few weeks. But not all back pain is the same. A few signs suggest it's time to stop waiting it out and get evaluated.

1. The pain lasts more than two weeks

Short-lived soreness from a long day or an awkward lift usually fades. Pain that hangs on beyond a couple of weeks — or keeps coming back — points to something that isn't resolving on its own. Early evaluation often means a simpler, faster recovery.

2. It travels down your leg

Pain, tingling, or numbness that radiates from your lower back into your buttock or down your leg can signal that a nerve is being irritated or compressed — a pattern often associated with sciatica. This is worth getting checked rather than ignoring.

3. It's worse in the morning or after sitting

Stiffness that's pronounced first thing in the morning, or that flares after long periods of sitting, can reflect posture, disc, or alignment issues. Small daily habits often drive these patterns — and they respond well to the right adjustments and exercises.

4. Certain movements consistently trigger it

If bending, twisting, or lifting reliably sets off your pain, your body may be compensating for a mechanical problem. A hands-on exam can pinpoint what's actually happening and how to move without aggravating it.

5. It's affecting sleep, work, or mood

Pain that interferes with your daily life — disrupting sleep, limiting activity, or wearing you down — has crossed from a nuisance into something worth addressing. You don't have to simply live with it.

What we can do

At Arbor Vitae Wellness, lower back care is drug-free and hands-on: chiropractic adjustments to restore alignment, physical therapy to rebuild support, and guidance on posture, movement, and lifestyle so the relief lasts. The first step is simply understanding what's driving your pain.
